As you may know we are in a crisis situation when it comes to Art Education in Los Angeles. The local universities and many other schools have opted out of skill-based training in their Fine Art programs long ago. Today in many BA programs for example, a young student could ride his skateboard through paint and onto a canvas and earn an A over a student who has had skill based training and created a beautiful portrait!
In our opinion, this is insane. And because of this it is our driving force to maintain an artistic center in Los Angeles that is dedicated to skill based art training, one that is acutely aware of the importance of aesthetics, and the simple beauty of replicating the human form we want to ensure we can continue this great tradition of Skill-Based Art.
No other art form has been so attacked the way that traditional fine are has. "Throwing the baby out with the bath water" is an understatement. In music, musicians still study scales, in theatre, actors still study the classics. But in Fine Art, the same is not true and it is nearly impossible to visit a gallery today and still see art that makes one say ahhhhh…. instead of huh????
At our academy, we have trained amazing artists who are carrying on the tradition of skill-based art making. Some of our classes only have 3 or 4 students but instead of canceling the class, we keep it going at our expense. We are not a non-profit organization but I can assure you that we are not laughing all the way to the bank either. We keep our team of professional artists working and the studio operating. If you agree and support what we are doing and would like to make a contribution to the academy below, we will be very grateful. Funds will be used to keep our classes going and help students in need.
